Promise World Wide is a United States-based 501 (c) 3 non-profit dedicated to bringing nutrition, clothing and education to children living in the extremely poor rural area on the outskirts of Kolkata, formerly Calcutta, India, a city called Nawabpur. Currently, the school serves over 200 children, and there is a long waiting list.

Promise World Wide School provides knowledge to children by building self-respect, providing the tools to make better informed decisions about their personal and human rights, teaching and encouraging them to be self-supportive and enabling them to make positive contributions to their family and community.  Promise World Wide programs consistently change the lives of impoverished children and their families, who, in turn, can take roles leading and inspiring the larger impoverished community, encouraging them to greater self-expectation and accomplishment.  Our strategic vision is to increase the outreach of Promise World Wide's program so as to serve more of the Nawabur, India population of slum dwelling children and their families, and help uplift the community in which they live, and expand the program into other impoverished neighborhoods.

In Nawabpur, India, a slum neighborhood of Kolkata, India located on the west coast of the State of Bangladesh, the mundane public school system has brought a new set of challenges; there are not enough qualified teachers to make it appear worthwhile to the student.  Complicating the effort of convincing students to see education as a way out of poverty is that few families can afford to send their children to these schools, because every rupee these childrenmake on the street helps feed, clothe, and house that family.  The children who find a way to attend school ultimately do not make it a priority to learn, as it is widely assumed they will only end up spending their lifetime working in a menial job.  Therefore, without having made learning a priority, the child advances to the next grade regardless of their academic accomplishments, as the school system has not developed criteria to qualify the student to move ahead to the next grade.  More often than not, their learning is static, if at all, and K-12 students "graduate" without having learned to read!

Promise World Wide steps in to provide academic after-school tutoring programs - unheard of until now in the slum neighborhoods outside of Kolkata, India.  Using a unique phonic-based system appropriate for all levels of need, trained tutors stimulate a student's ability to read.  They quickly acquire skills that propel them to a previously unrealized goal to acquire knowledge - and their minds are opened to an unstoppable trajectory set on a lifetime of learning.
